With its latest decision, Microsoft has shifted its focus to the Xbox Series X/S. According to a statement from the company, the Xbox 360’s digital store will be shut down starting next year. It will no longer be possible to purchase games or any additional bundles through the Xbox 360 Store.
Xbox 360 Store to close in 2024
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 Store will close on July 29, 2024. This decision comes 18 years after the Xbox 360 was first released in 2005. However, the console has not received any new content for more than 5 years.
The store closure will only block access to digital games. However, Microsoft emphasized that all previously purchased content will be available in players’ libraries. Thanks to backwards compatibility, you’ll also be able to play these games on Xbox One or Series X/S.
Even though the store is shutting down, some games on Xbox 360 will still be supported. This means multiplayer servers and developer accounts will still be supported after July 29, 2024.
The cloud save feature will allow gamers to migrate their saves and accounts to the next generation of Xbox consoles.
Microsoft’s decision follows Sony’s plans to close the PSP store in 2016 and the PS3 and PS Vita stores last year. However, let us remind you that Sony kept the PS3 and PS Vita stores open after the reactions, only restricting payment options.
